Get Ready

Once you have booked an appointment, please follow the four simple steps below to get yourself ready.

Step 1

Make sure you understand the terms of our service and what we can and can’t do.

Step 2

  • For debt advice appointments: There are a number of possible routes out of debt, and some important things you need to be aware of when seeking debt advice - for example the impact on your credit report, home or job.

  • For budget coaching appointments: Make sure you’ve completed your one-week spending tracker and have recorded everything you’ve spent this week

Step 3

Telephone or Online Appointments

  • Make sure you have a quiet place for you to speak to us

  • You might find it easier to use a set of headphones if you have them

  • For telephone appointments, we will phone you on the number you have given us. If you are having an online video call, we will have sent you details to log-in to the call. (Please note that all our calls may be monitored or recorded for training and quality assurance purposes)

Face-to-face Appointments

  • Please arrive in good time for your appointment - we may not be able to see you if you arrive late

  • Please do not attend your appointment if you have a communicable illness (e.g. COVID-19)

  • If you can no longer attend your appointment in person, and you let us know in advance, we may be able to change your appointment to a telephone or video appointment instead

Step 4

It’s really helpful if you can gather together all your papers including benefit letters, rent statement, wage slips, bank statements, bills, letters from your creditors.

You can also send them to us beforehand. Use your phone to take a photo of the document/s (remember to photograph both sides if necessary), and email them to us at appointments@crosslightadvice.org.

Complete a budget form

If you have a debt advice appointment, one of the most useful actions you can take is to complete a budget form. If you’re able to make a head start before your appointment using our online ‘Budget Builder’ - even if you can only complete some of it - it will speed up your appointment and enable us to help you more effectively.
